En-route to this sweet victory, Nadal defeated his arch-rival Roger Federer and World No 6 Tomas Berdych while the towering Del Potro beat Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray in consecutive matches on his way to the final. This was Nadal’s 600th career match and will now move to No. 4 in the ATP rankings to be released today (March 18).
In the Ladies final, Maria Sharapova defeated Caroline Wozniacki 6-2, 6-2 to win her first title of the year.
