Paris attacks: Prince, U2, Bono, Foo Fighters, Motorhead cancel concerts

EFT Report, Paris: Prince has become the latest act to cancel his European concert tour following the Paris attacks, his French production company confirmed today.

The tour -- entitled "Prince Spotlight: Piano and a Microphone" -- would have begun on November 24 in Vienna, Austria, and would have included dates in Britain and Sweden.

The 57-year-old American was expected to be in Paris on December 11 to play two shows at the historic Palais Garnier opera house.

"In light of the tragic events in Paris, the organisers decided to cancel the European tour," said Interconcerts, a ticket company.

A similar message was posted on the site of Vienna's concert hall.

The tour was believed to be the first since Prince's rise to stardom in which he would have performed with such stripped-down instrumentation.

A number of rock bands have also cancelled tour dates in France since the attacks, including U2, who cancelled some of their concerts.

Bono and the rest of the band members paid their respects in person at a makeshift memorial set up near the 1,500-seat Bataclan concert hall where 89 people were killed.

The California rock group Eagles of Death Metal was performing at the venue when gunmen burst in. Members of the band escaped unharmed and have returned to the United States.

Other acts who have cancelled tour dates in Paris are the American rock band Foo Fighters, who were due to perform in Paris today at the 20,000-capacity AccorHotels Arena.

Veteran English rock band Motorhead were also scheduled to perform in Paris on Sunday and have cancelled.

Fatboy Slim, Tiesto to perform at Bacardi Enchanted Valley Carnival

EFT Report, Pune: International music artists like Oliver Heldens, Alex Morph, Shpongle and Noisecontrollers have joined the line-up of Bacardi Enchanted Valley Carnival music festival, to be held in December at Aamby Valley City.

While every artist will belt out some crazy beats, the festival will be headlined by Tiesto and Fatboy Slim.

The festival arena will have four stages featuring multiple genres of music -- trance, house, techno, dubstep and future house. The Full on Ferry stage programmed by Ferry Corsten will feature back-to-back sets by Marco V, Alex Morph and RAM. Label Armada is all set to bring down the house with Thomas Gold, Omnia, Ben Gold and Ruben De Ronde, read a statement.

The stage debuting at the campsite will showcase live and experimental music where bands will play exclusively for the Enchanted Village campers even before the festival hours. This will be a new addition to the festival not only as a stagem but with some cutting-edge programming jointly curated by Universal Music Group and Saavn.

Indian artists such as Arjun Vagale, Lost Stories, Nucleya and Zaeden will also perform at the four-day fest, which will begin from December 17.

Michael Learns' multi-city India tour from Dec. 11

EFT Report, Gurgaon: Danish band Michael Learns to Rock, popular for churning out pop and soft rock numbers, is set for a multi-city tour of India starting here December 11.

Formed in 1988, the band consists of singer-keyboard player Jascha Richter, drummer Kare Wanscher, guitarist Mikkel Lentz and bassist Soren Madsen.

The group, which has delivered hits like "Paint my love", "You took my heart away", "Sleeping child" and "Someday", will visit cities like Guwahati and Kolkata.

"In December we will be touring the wonderful country of India again as a part of our 25 Live Anniversary Celebration Tour! This will be the most extensive tour we have ever done in India and we hope to see all our beautiful Indian fans there," read the official site of the band, who have performed in Shillong and Mumbai in the past.

The Indian tour is an initiative by event management company called 7 sisters entertainment.

"This time they will first perform at the Kingdom of Dreams in Gurgaon on December 11. Then they will head to Guwahati (December 13), followed by Dimapur (December 15), then Kolkata (December 17), and then finally to Goa (December 19)," Ramngachan Kazingmei Shimrei, co-owner of 7 sisters entertainment said.

Ghulam Ali cancels all concerts in India

EFT Report, New Delhi: Pakistani ghazal singer Ghulam Ali, whose concert in Mumbai was called off after resistance from the Shiv Sena, has cancelled all his scheduled performances in the country, saying that he won't return to India until "things are settled down”.

Ghulam Ali also expressed his disappointment over the recent incidents, asserting that Indian fans have always welcomed him and his music with open arms. 

“I have cancelled all my future concerts in India, will never come back to India. I will not perform until things settle down. I'm hurt by recent incidents in India. As of now I have decided not to come to India. Indian fans have been very supportive. I'm a singer, I will talk about music, not politics,” the singer told CNN-IBN news channel. 

All his scheduled concerts, including the one in Delhi on November 8, and another in Lucknow, have been scrapped. 

According to a report in ibnlive.com, Ghulam Ali, who made an entry into Indian cinema with his popular song "Chupke chupke raat din" for B.R. Chopra's "Nikaah", is "hurt by the politics being played over his concerts in India" and "how political points were trying to score brownie points by not letting him perform in India".

The singer was stopped from performing in Mumbai and in Pune last month after the Shiv Sena threatened to disrupt his concerts. It led to a debate, with artistes from all sections urging that art be kept out of politics. 

He had then said that he was sad, but his admiration for India remains undiminished.

Demi Lovato, Nick Jonas to collaborate for 'Future Now' tour

EFT Report, Los Angeles: Singers Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas are hitting the road together again next year.

The two long time friends, frequent collaborators and fellow former Disney stars announced on Monday that they'd embark on a tour called "Future Now" next summer, reports aceshowbiz.com.

The 44-date tour is set to open on June 24 at Florida's BB&T Center and hit cities across the US and Canada before concluding on September 17 in Los Angeles. Tickets for the upcoming shows go on sale on November 7. 

"Demi and I, we're business partners, obviously have a long history of being friends. But the key for us was about living in this moment," Jonas said when he made an appearance alongside Lovato on "Good Morning America" on Monday. 

"Taking a step out individually over the last year and a half, two years, growing with our fans, and saying if there's ever a time to do it, it's now, to come together and do this tour," Lovato added. 

Prior to the "Future Now" tour, Lovato and Jonas have several times hit the road together in the past. The "Cool for the summer" singer joined her friend when he was still a part of Jonas Brothers on the group's 2008, 2009 and 2010 tours. Jonas also helped produce Lovato's "Neon Lights" tour last year.

AR Rahman to perform at Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival

EFT Report, Mumbai: With a dash of glamour courtesy Bollywood and an eclectic line-up of close to 200 films from across the globe, 17th edition of Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival, which begins here on Thursday, promises to offer art and glamour in right proportion.

Critically-acclaimed Indian drama "Aligarh" by Hansal Mehta will open the eight-day fest, which is being organised by the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI). Legendary French filmmaker Claude Lelouch’s “Un Plus Une” will bring the curtains down on the fest on November 5.

For festival director Anupama Chopra and her team, it’s a “proud” moment as the fest gets ready to roll. 

“It’s not just films that we’re offering. There’s Film Market, Movie Mela, Masterclasses with some legends and active participation from Bollywood fraternity. It’s the perfect cocktail of art and glamour. We hope people find reasons to celebrate. We’re creating the kind of atmosphere they won’t find anywhere in the country,” Anupama told IANS.

The opening ceremony will be hosted by Kalki Koechlin and will have the who’s who of Bollywood in attendance. Double Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman will perform the signature tune he has created for the festival. 

As many as 13 films are competing for the Best Film Award in the India gold section. The winning film will get an investment of Rs.50 lakh from Drishyam Films to support its distribution, sales and festival management.

There are 15 fiction features and five documentaries in the India story category.

There will be six movies in the After Dark section, and Qaushiq Mukherjee's "Ludo" will be the opening feature, while others include "Tag", "Turbo Kid" and "Deathgasam”.

In a new section called Half Ticket, exclusively for children, the most outstanding and imaginative live action, animation and documentary features and shorts from across the world will compete for children's jury awards.

Children will also learn filmmaking from renowned directors and writers at a special interactive session. Some of the films in this section include "Dhanak", "Song of the Sea", "Lamb", "Paper Plane" and "About a Mother". 

In the international competition section, critically-acclaimed films such as “Mina Walking”, “Sleeping Giant” and “Songs My Brother Taught Me” are competing. Filmmaker Raam Reddy’s “Thithi” is the only Indian film in this category.

Ava DuVernay, Academy Award nominated director for "Selma", will serve as the head of the international jury.

The fest will present two Excellence in Cinema awards - one to an international personality and the other to an Indian. While the international award will be presented to iconic Israeli filmmaker Amos Gitai, the Indian award will be handed over to legendary screenwriters Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar.

This year's international tribute is to French director Agnes Varda, who was given the honorary Palme d'Or this year at the Cannes International Film Festival. The Indian tribute will be to Indian filmmaker Chetan Anand, whose 100th birth anniversary falls this year.

An additional highlight of the event will be an activity called Young Critics Lab, in which 20 handpicked students will be mentored by renowned film critic Peter Bradshaw.

The festival will also host Mumbai Mart, a unique initiative to bridge the gap between content creators and content platforms. In this one-day market, the festival programmers will curate 25 complete Indian projects.

On October 31, Jio MAMI will celebrate cinema at the Movie Mela in Mehboob Studio where leading actors and directors will talk about their work and life. There will be a masterclass by actor Rishi Kapoor, while Rajkumar Hirani and Abhijat Joshi will talk about creating blockbusters.

Filmmakers like Imtiaz Ali, Zoya Akhtar and Avinash Arun will join hands for the Young Adult Workshop, which is aimed at imparting knowledge in the nuances of direction, editing and production of films for young children.

Popular films from across the globe such as "Taxi", "The Visit", "The Assassin", "The Lobster", "Mistress America", "My Mother" and "Youth" will be screened.

'The Wailers' maiden Indian concert in Shillong on Oct. 24

EFT Report, Shillong: Jamaican reggae band, The Wailers - comprising some of the remnants of the legendary Bob Marley and the Wailers - are all set to make their India debut with a concert here on Saturday, and then long to explore Shillong, often described as India's rock capital.

On their maiden visit to India, the band has promised a high-voltage performance at the annual NH7 Weekender Festival to be held at RBDSA Sports Complex here. They will also perform in Kolkata on November 1.

"This is our first time to India and we are longing to explore beautiful Shillong. We expect exposure to the ancient culture and all that it has to offer," Aston Barrett, the bassist and frontman of The Wailers, told IANS over phone from Guwahati.

Barrett, who is one of the original members of the Bob Marley-led band, also promised: "As long as we are in India for the first time, we will try to play for as many of the people as possible."

On his expectations from their first concert in India and that too starting from Shillong, Barret, who goes by the nickname 'Family Man', said: "The current Wailers band still maintains the standards that we established 40 years ago. We are looking forward to playing these songs for the people of Shillong and reggae lovers for the first time in India. It is a joy to spread the music to so many people around the world."

Apart from "Family Man" Barrett, the band has Aston Barrett Jr. on the drums, Dwayne Anglin as the lead vocalist, Cegee Victory with backing vocals, Audley Chisholm as the lead guitarist, Melvin Glover on the rhythm guitar and Chaka Taylor on keyboards.

"The power of the music was made very clear when we were faced with attacks on our safety. Music always finds its people.. Reggae music doesn't need recognition, it needs followers.. Reggae is not just music, it is the 'Movement of Jah people'. It is a joy to spread the music to so many people around India and we hope you do the same," said Barrett.

Asked if he was aware that there is also a sizeable reggae wave in India and particularly in Shillong, the 69-year-old bassist said: "There are many similarities with the Indian and Jamaican people and many Indians were settled in Jamaica. Carrying on the mission of spreading the music was our last promise to Bob and that is what we have been doing.

"Reggae music, it is the heartbeat of the people. It is the universal language what carry the message of roots, culture, and reality. Bob was a prophet and we are glad to hear about this."

On how did he came up with The Wailers, Barrett said: "Bob was a prophet and a visionary and a relentless worker who gave his all to his music and the movement of Jah people, which is the assertion of basic human rights to all."

"It's always been about 'Positive Vibrations'... reggae music represents the struggling man - oppressed and denied the right to live as god intended.. Since its creation, not much has changed... Therefore, those who best relate to the struggle will typically gravitate to reggae music. Reggae music is Rebel Music, that inspires people to fight for their rights..." he asserted."

Adam Levine may perform at Super Bowl 50 Halftime

EFT Report, Washington: Adam Levine and his rock band ' Maroon 5' might perform during halftime of Super Bowl 50 in California.

The 36-year-old singer and his rock band are in negotiations about performing during the halftime show and it is said that the singer's band is a current front runner to perform at the Super Bowl, E! Online reports.

Other names on the list include 2014 act Bruno Mars, and Coldplay, who was on last year's short list.

The super Bowl 50 will take place at the 'Lost Stars' hit-maker's stadium in Santa Clara on February 2016, and will air on CBS.

Ghulam Ali's concert in Delhi on Nov. 8

EFT Report, New Delhi: Well known Pakistani ghazal singer Ghulam Ali, whose concerts in Maharashtra were cancelled due to Shiv Sena threats, will perform here on November 8, it was announced on Thursday.

Delhi Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra tweeted: "Delhi will host Ghulam Ali Saab. You spread hatred, we will keep on promoting brotherhood." He said the event will take place on November 8, Sunday.

Delhi's ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had on October 8 invited the noted singer to perform in the national capital, a day after his Mumbai concert was called off.

The 74-year-old Pakistani singer was to perform as part of the death anniversary tribute to singer Jagjit Singh. But the show in Mumbai was axed after the Shiv Sena threatened to disrupt it.

His concert in Pune was also cancelled.

The AAP had condemned the Shiv Sena for issuing the threats, and also attacked the BJP-led Maharashtra government for not providing protection to the Ghulam Ali show.

Mamata offers Kolkata for Ghulam Ali concert

EFT Report, Kolkata: Asserting that music has no boundaries, West Bengal Chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday offered Kolkata as a venue for a concert by Pakistani ghazal maestro Ghulam Ali whose concert in Mumbai was cancelled following threats from the Shiv Sena.

"Music has no boundaries. Music is the rhythm of the heart. Ghulam Ali Ji's concert can be held in Kolkata. We will make all arrangements," tweeted Banerjee, also the chief of the Trinamool Congress.

The 75-year-old singer was scheduled to perform in Mumbai and Pune this week as part of the death anniversary tribute to late singer Jagjit Singh. But the show in Mumbai was called off on Wednesday after Shiv Sena threatened to disrupt his live concert.

Earlier in the day Delhi Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra invited the renowned singer to perform in Delhi.

While the cancellation of the concert has attracted widespread criticism, Ali too has expressed his disappointment.

"I'm very hurt. I have always got love in India. The concert was a tribute for Jagjit Singh. He was like a brother to me," Ali told a news channel.

EFT Report, New Delhi: Delhi Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra on Thursday invited renowned Pakistani ghazal singer Ghulam Ali to perform in Delhi after he cancelled his Mumbai concert following threats from the Shiv Sena.

"Sad that Ghulam Ali is not being allowed in Mumbai. I invite him to come to Delhi and do the concert. Music has no boundaries," Mishra tweeted.

The 75-year-old singer was scheduled to perform in Mumbai and Pune this week as part of the death anniversary tribute to late singer Jagjit Singh. But the show in Mumbai was called off on Wednesday after Shiv Sena threatened to disrupt his live concert.

Ali told a news channel that he was "disappointed as people who were interested in the concert were disappointed" and also because it was was a tribute to Jagjit Singh, who was like a brother to him.

"This should not be seen as India-Pakistan issue. Rather it is a symbol of love and affection," he said.

Maharastra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also expressed his disappointment over the cancellation. He said his government was ready to provide proper security to Ali for the concert.

However, the Shiv Sena defended its stand on the issue and said that people can't have fun specially when innocents are being killed on border on the India-Pakistan border.

"We have encounters going on everywhere, so many ceasefire violations. When this is happening we can't be having fun here...," Shiv Sena leader Aditya Thakre told reporters in Mumbai.

Ghulam Ali shows in Maharashtra cancelled after Shiv Sena threat

EFT Report, Mumbai: Pakistan's renowned ghazal maestro Ghulam Ali will not perform in Maharashtra this week, as his shows were cancelled after a meeting between the organisers and Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray, a party leader said on Wednesday.

"The programmes would be held as per schedule, but Ghulam Ali will not participate in it. This decision was taken at a meeting between the event organisers and Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray here this evening (Wednesday)," the Shiv Sena's film wing Chitrapat Sena general secretary Akshay Bardapurkar said.

The Shiv Sena earlier on Wednesday threatened to disrupt Ghulam Ali's proposed live concerts in Mumbai and Pune this week.

Chitrapat Sena president Aadesh Bandekar told IANS: "We have met and asked the authorities at Shanmukhananda Hall in Matunga to cancel the show proposed to be held on October 9, failing which we shall protest in our own style."

Officials said Ghulam Ali's participation in the events in Mumbai and Pune could raise security concerns and it was the duty of the government to ensure the safety of the internationally-acclaimed artiste.

Bandekar said the party would also protest and stop a similar concert scheduled in Pune on October 10 as part of the fourth death anniversary tribute to late singer Jagjit Singh.

Interestingly, both the concerts have reported a near-total sell-out and have been the topic of discussion on social media since the past few days.

"We respect the art and artistes of Pakistan. However, we are strongly against any form of cultural association with that country since it regularly kills our soldiers and civilians in attacks around the borders," Bandekar said.

He warned of protests not only in Mumbai and Pune but wherever the 75-year-old Ghulam Ali performs in India.

In the past, the Shiv Sena had protested against Pakistani singer Atif Aslam's concert and against the Pakistan cricket team playing in India.

On Tuesday, the party, through its mouthpiece Saamana, had urged the Centre to display guts and attack Pakistan in retaliation for the cross-border attacks on Indian solders and civilians.

The concert in Mumbai was scheduled to be held at the iconic Shanmukhananda Hall, a favourite venue for Shiv Sena functions since several decades.

The tribute to Jagjit Singh was specially brought to India through 'Ek Ehsaas' concerts, which provides a platform to connect people through music.

Fatboy Slim, Tiesto, Ferry Corsten to perform at EVC 2015

EFT Report, New Delhi: The beats and tunes of world renowned DJs Tiesto, Fatboy Slim and Ferry Corsten will be plugging in the cord of electronic dance music (EDM) into the Enchanted Valley Carnival 2015 (EVC), scheduled to be held in December in Pune.

Universal Music Group, a music company, on Thursday announced a partnership with Twisted Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., under which both parties will take equal stakes in the three-day camping music festival, which will start on December 18 at Aamby Valley City Festival Arena, Pune. 

Devraj Sanyal, managing director and CEO at Universal Music Group, South Asia, says the music company aims to inject more energy into the music fest making the third edition of the music fest "bigger and better". 

"We have announced three names today -- Tiësto, Fatboy Slim (Norman Cook) and Ferry Corsten-- and over the next 30-60 days we will announce other artists. We are using all our energy and all our network to try and push this as much we can. And, yes people can expect to see names of more Universal Music artists in the coming line-up," Sanyal told IANS. 

He added: "In the next three-four years, we want EVC to be the largest standalone multi-genre festival".

The carnival is a multi-genre music festival that inter weaves the fun of musical performances, adrenaline-pumping adventure sports with camping experience. 

Sanyal said that they aim to move to the next step this year by becoming "cashless". 

"We are spending energy on our sources to make the experience of EVC phenomenal. You don't have to stand in line for using restroom for many hours, wait for long for a drink, and we are also trying to make the entire festival go cashless," Sanyal noted. 

Another highlight for the upcoming edition is that fest plans to bring the experience of a mystical world where ancient meets modern with a new call-out - "#JoinTheTribe" - to build a community and belonging for like-minded and passionate people.

Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt to perform in Mumbai on Sept. 10

EFT Report, Mumbai: Indian actors Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt have planned to make the launch of "Gulaabo" -- the first song to release from their film “Shaandaar” -- special by performing live at an event here on Thursday.

This will be the first time the duo will perform together live on stage, read a statement.

Shahid and Alia also tweeted the first look image of their song on Twitter. It suggests a fun mood, wherein Alia is seen wearing a tweed jacket and pants, and also a moustache!

“The gulaabo gang of insomniacs is coming for you #2DaysForGulaabo @aliaa08 @foxstarhindi @dharmamovies @fuhsephantom,” tweeted Shahid.

The trailer of the film, directed by Vikas Bahl of "Queen" fame, has already generated a lot of buzz and the audiences are now looking forward to its music.

The Band Perry Concert at ACM Awards in Vegas

EFT Report, Las Vegas: Famous American country music band 'The Band Perry' will perform live at 49th Annual Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, at 7 pm tonight on  the CBS Television Network.

Tishomingo resident Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan will co-host the three-hour broadcast for the second straight year.

DU 'Antardhvani 2014' Cultural Fest From Feb. 14

EFT Report, New Delhi: The University of Delhi is all set to host its annual Antardhvani Cultural Festival 2014 from February 14-16, 2014.

Antardhvani Cultural Festival was conceptualized and started in 2011 and has become the showpiece event of India’s highest rated university. In the brief duration of two years it has emerged as the medium for profiling the university’s cultural, sports and academic achievements. The last Antardhvani attracted about 1, 50,000 footfalls in three days.

The annual Cultural Festival of the University of Delhi was named ‘Antardhvani’ by Vice Chancellor, Professor Dinesh Singh. By listening to the ‘inner voice’, a student will discover his/ her calling in life, and be guided in the path of right action.
