| Arties Festival 2013 |
Quatuor Ebene are considered one of the finest young string quartets in the world. Already having completed their 10th anniversary and with so many awards to their credit, this quartet will be stopping by in Mumbai on their return to France from Hong Kong. Having won the Gramophone Record of the year award for their recording of Ravel, Debussy and Faure string quartets, they are considered the leading interpreters of the Ravel quartet having played it hundreds of time all over the world. This will be the first time they will play this quartet in Mumbai.
Well known pianist Romain Descharmes who is making waves in the musical world ever since he won first prize in the Dublin International Piano competition has been part of a few Arties Festival editions. He will join the Ebenes in a performance of the Brahms piano quintet.
Another familiar face will be that of Olivier Patey, who is truly one of the great clarinetists of our time. Currently, he is the solo clarinet player of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, a position which is most coveted. As a chamber musician, Olivier has played with some of the finest musicians around the world and knows from memory most of the solo clarinet repertoire.
Interestingly, Olivier Patey and Romain Decharmes have recorded the first Arties CD with an all Brahms programme, part of which they will present live at this festival.
Gauthier Herrmann, cellist and artistic director of the festival, will join the Quatuor Ebene in a much awaited performance of the Schubert String quintet.
