Godrej Properties Golf Challenge 2014 Set for Biggset Edition Ever

Report by Santanu Ganguly: The annual Godrej Properties Intra Club Golf Challenge is back with its third edition and this year’s event is set to be the biggest one yet.
Buoyed by the success of last season’s event which involved 800-odd amateur golfers from four of the leading golf clubs in the country, promoters Godrej Properties have opted to raise the tournament’s profile even further.
This year’s event will witness seven city rounds, including stop overs at four new locations, and an increase in the total number of participating golfers to an approximate 1000.  And like in 2013, the event will once again culminate in an International Finals showdown in Bangkok where the respective winners from each city will battle it out.
The action tees off on 25th January with simultaneous rounds at the Willingdon Sports Club in Mumbai and at the Qutub Golf Course in Delhi, the first of the new venues added to this year’s itinerary. The Classic Golf Resort in Gurgaon stages round three on 1st February followed by another double header on 9th February at Madras Gymkhana Club in Chennai and Royal Calcutta Golf Club, Kolkata which replaces the Tollygunge Golf Club from the 2013 list of hosts. Noida Golf Course, the third addition to this year’s event, takes centre stage on 14th February 2014, with the club rounds winding up in Bangalore on 21st February at Bangalore Golf Club which takes the place of Karnataka Golf Association this time.
“The results of expanding the Godrej Properties Golf Challenge from a one city event to a four city event last year were there for all to see,” said Girish Shah, Executive Vice President of Godrej Properties. “We were obviously encouraged by those results and felt there was scope for further improvisation this year. Having new clubs enter the fray makes the competition that much more exciting.”
The tournament will again follow the Stableford Points System across two handicap categories: 0-12 & 13-24 (3/4 Nett Stableford Points). Any member of a participating club can play in the tournament provided they have a valid handicap from that club. The top player in each handicap category from each of the seven clubs will then earn a chance to compete in the International Finals scheduled to take place from 26th to 28th February in Bangkok.
Professional Management Group will be the event managers and will be responsible for the entire functioning of the tournament.
