Kavita Seth, Javed Bashir to Perform at World Sufi Spirit Festival 2014

Report by Santanu Ganguly: The advent of a New Year unravels a pleasant surprise for music aficionados. The much awaited World Sufi Spirit Festival (WSSF) hosted every year in the mystical State of Rajasthan has roped in two proclaimed Coke Studio artists to perform at the festival in February. Sufi singers Kavita Seth and Javed Bashir will bring to life Sufi traditions along with various other artists from Iran, Morocco, Lebanon, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan etc.
The festival this year will kick start on Monday, 17th February 2014 in Nagaur and will culminate on Sunday, 23rd February at Jodhpur. Lebanese singer Abeer Nehme, artists like Chintoo Singh, Rajeev Mahaveer and many more would also be capturing attraction of music lovers this year.
It is through art and music that one can relate to a deep feeling of ecstasy - an ecstasy floating between fulfilment and the longing of the beloved, declaim the Sufi poets. Taking this a step further, WSSF plays host to some of the leading exponents of Sufi from across the borders year after year! Patronized by internationally renowned artist Sting, the festival is hosted at the Mehrangarh and Ahichhatragarh Forts in Jodhpur and Nagaur respectively. Through dance, music and singing, treasures of the global cultures along with their deep rooted affiliation with Sufi rituals are revealed during the festival.
Karni Jasol, Director, Mehrangarh Museum Trust said, “Post a successful event last year, this edition promises to be a memorable musical journey with ancient traditions that will enchant one and all. While each year we try to rope in new talent and create an aura that is captivating, this year will be no different. I am pleased to have the likes of Kavita and Javed on board this season and I am certain that they will fascinate one and all with their soulful renditions.
Says Kavita Seth, “It feels great to be a part of festival that promotes the rich culture of Sufism. I look forward to collaborating with like-minded artists from across the globe.”
Javed Bashir adds, “Sufi music speaks of God, love and peace between people. In my experience, I haven’t been able to see the love and respect for music anywhere else other than India. I am looking forward to perform at the World Sufi Spirit Festival and I appreciate the platform that has been created to promote a traditional art.”
Giving both the national as well as international artists a common ground to learn and discover rich Sufi traditions prevalent worldwide, WSSF has created a platform for the artists to perform and collaborate seamlessly.
