Nikon Launches 17 New ‘Coolpix’ Cameras

EFT Report, New Delhi: Camera manufacturer Nikon introduced a new range of 17 compact ‘Coolpix’ cameras, priced between Rs 4,990 and Rs 54,950 on April 19, 2013. Bollywood Diva Priyanka Chopra, brand ambassador of Nikon India, was also present at the launch of Coolpix range of cameras in New Delhi.

With the new range, Nikon expects to increase its market share in the segment to 30 per cent this year, up from 27 per cent at present. The company expects India’s contribution to its global revenue to grow to 5 per cent in the next three years, Nikon India Managing Director Hiroshi Takashina said.

During 2012–13, India’s contribution stood at about 2 per cent of the global revenue, while it was 1.6 per cent in 2011–12, he added.

“We have 55 per cent market share in digital SLR segment, while it is 27 per cent in compact cameras. For digital SLR, we are looking to maintain the same share, while we expect to increase it to 30 per cent in the compact segment,” Takashina said.

According to the company, the Indian market for the DSLR segment stands at 2.45 lakh units annually, and it is 27 lakh units for compact cameras.
