EFT Report, Mumbai: Jain Katha-A historical evening that promises to redefine the boundaries of Kathak. Liberate your spirit through dance and music as the art form evolves through this new work by disciples of Chitresh Das. Jain Katha brings to the forefront Jainism’s cornerstones of ‘Peace and Salvation’ for the first time through Kathak. 50% of the proceeds from the show will be given to the NGO ‘Nanhi Kali’ towards the education of the girl child.
FLOW OF THE SHOW:
Jain Katha- Stories and shlokas from Jain Scripture through Kathak.
Navkar Mantra:
The stage will open with over 50 children chanting ‘Navkaar Mantra’. Seema Mehta performs a Vandana to a Jain Shlok, short Kathak Solos by Rina Mehta and Seema Mehta, demonstration of a Kathak Yoga piece where they sing, play the harmonium and dance, all simultaneously.
Chandanbala:
The tale of the princess Vasumati, whose enduring compassion and faith stood in stark contrast to the injustice and violence that surrounded her life. These virtues eventually earned her the name Chandanbala and she took her place amongst the leading Mahasatis of Jainism. Through dance, music, rhythm, mime, and song, Chandanbala brings to life an ancient story that resonates with striking universality in the hearts and souls of audiences around the globe. It reminds us that we live in a world still plagued with war, political strife, and terrible violence against women and children. It reminds us that we can invoke those very things that Chandanbala did to face such circumstances; the power inherent in ourselves and the power of our faith. Rina takes the audience through a journey by doing all eleven roles herself, the kings at war, the mother, Chandanbala, the merchant, the father, the step mother, etc.
Mangal Mandir Kholo: An Enlightening Jain prarthana set in raag Bhairavi.
This famous Jain Stavan beckons its listeners. Awaken the divine within by humbling yourself. See the streak of light through the darkness of life. You are but an innocent child that needs the unconditional love of the divine.
