EFT Report, New Delhi: “The fittest survives”, this Darwinian principle supposedly bears biological inkling. To apply a similar principle on an individual in the social and economic context is however the failure of the basic tenets of a civilized society. The satirical social drama depicts the dilemma and conflict of Mahipat, protagonist of the play, who struggles through his life in want of simple recognitions. He’s dead bent to earn a Master’s degree and manages one in third division. He recounts his humble past in soliloquy and sets off to meet his ends only to confront the stark realities of real life. Inundated with rejections from every door knocked at for a job, he ultimately takes refuge in the ever-potent weapon of sifaarish. He gets one as a teacher in a remotely located college where no qualified teacher preferred to go.
However, all didn’t end well for Mahipat who eventually got thrown out of the college and became butt of ridicule by his student, sweetheart, the sifarishi uncle and the society in general. But was Mahipat alone responsible for his fate? Or was he victim of the inadequacies of the system. Only the play answers in the most gripping manner.
