Report by Santanu Ganguly: Urshilla Dance Company is presenting Anukriti, from street to stage, hope for the streetizens a contemporary dance production choreographed, conceptualized and designed by Bhavini Misra (Disciple of Sh. Santosh Nair).
Why do some children need to beg for their skills? What if their talent is fostered? Can we help their dreams come true...??
Anurakti captures the journey of hope, despair, pain, conviction as it journeys through the life of a little boy and girl who dance and beg on the streets and whose only dream is to become a great dancer who performs on stage and is applauded for his art Performed by UDC and STREET CHILDREN, Live music compositions by Delhi Drummers and Antoine Rendon on Friday, April 19, 2013, 7:00 pm at Kamani Auditorium, Coopernicus Marg, New Delhi.
Anurakti—Hope for the streetizens is an initiative to better the future of young street children who beg for a living through dance. This is a concept to unite them with young contemporary dancers and create a mutual relationship. One that surpasses the socio economic divide and creates a mutual understanding between different strata's where they come together for the cause of dance.
With a mind that what if their futures become better and stronger if their brilliant gymnastic talent gets a little focus and direction through a dance company, Urshilla Dance Company directed choreographed ANURAKTI.
With strong contemporary dancing blended with the techniques of Mayurbhanj Chhau and Lyrical Jazz, as well as nuances of Kathak and Street acrobats, Anurakti is a team of young artists of contemporary dance along with street children and brilliant self-trained street acrobatic dancers.
Coming under one roof, they have created a unique piece that explores contemporary dance with new dimensions of lighting and multimedia. Its abstract in the form but massy in story telling as it reveals the journey of hope, despair, pain, conviction as it journeys through the life of a little boy and girl who dance and beg on the streets and whose only dream is to become a great dancer who performs on stage and is applauded for his art. The story showcases the emotions of his journey and how his future evolves when a dance company actually embraces him.
The cause of this show is to better the lives of these kids as well as give young artists a sense of deep morale and great confidence. UDC has currently adopted for the dance education of 6 children who are all performing.
