The new imprint will publish works from new and established authors with an assorted blend of east and west for readers aged between 13 and 21.

INKED has been created to fill the existing void in YA literature in India and does so by giving young readers a choice of original and exciting books across a wide variety of genres. The content has been crafted to appeal to the tastes of our readers, and will connect with them at the level of their growing emotional responses.

Vibrant, fresh and innovative—these words best describe the INKED logo, specially designed to appeal YA readers and revolutionize the image of YA literature. Everything we do at Inked—from the writing to the titles, covers and campaigns—has been designed keeping these key directives in mind.

Calling all Inksters: Parallel to the launch of the imprint, INKED is also searching for talented, quirky, opinionated and imaginative young adults through a massive online initiative like never before. The ambition of this initiative is to put together a diverse set of Inksters (pun intended) who will then have the opportunity to contribute content and lend administrative expertise to the funky new INKED website. The INKED website is a platform designed to be a one stop destination for YA readers to connect on all things cool. From books, music and the arts to games we have tons of interesting content cleverly sectioned into reviews, Iread, Inkspiration, coat of Ink, Inkterviews, ink-o-meter, jinx, Musink and the Inked shelf.

To be an Inkster, all you have to do is log on to www.facebook.com/PenguinIndia or send an email to Iaminked@in.penguingroup.com with a sample of you expressing your creativity in written words, video, art, photos or anything you can think of.

As INKED gears up to capture the imagination of YA readers across the country, Andrew Phillips, CEO, Penguin Books India, said, “Everyone at Penguin India is delighted to be launching our new YA imprint, Inked. This category has grown enormously in the last few years around the world, and its a great opportunity for us to bring exciting stories to a broad audience, hungry for good books. Inked will offer original and fresh writing across different genres and formats and is an important addition to the Penguin India catalogue."

The inaugural titles of INKED include the following.

Eliza Crewe’s cracked—the first book of the gripping Soul Eater trilogy is a thrilling tale of the war between good and evil.

Karma by Cathy Ostlere, is the story of how a young girl facing the demands of two cultures endures personal tragedy yet learns forgiveness, acceptance and love.

Another great addition to the list is Vibha Batra’s Seventeen and Done (You Bet!) with high school, romance, fashion, friendship, longing and everything which makes a teenager’s heart grow fonder. Inked titles will be available at all major bookstores across India by the end of this month.
