Report by Santanu Ganguly, New Delhi: To work towards the Welfare of AIDS patients as well as create awareness about AIDS among the masses, Divine Social Welfare Society - a Non-Government Organization organized a musical evening with renowned Sufi musicians “NIZAMI BANDHU” at Shri Satya Sai Auditorium, Lodhi Road, New Delhi on Saturday evening (March 30, 2013).
The evening was organized towards DIVINE’s campaign – “STOP AIDS- PROTECT THE INNOCENT.” Under this campaign, a series of Rallies, Nukkad Nataks etc have been planned by Divine as part of its fight against AIDS. Besides AIDS awareness, the organization is working to spread awareness among the masses about the importance of education, the cancer of child labor, betterment for the health and social rights of affected children.
The evening commenced with 'Maula Ke Kaul', which according to Sufiana tradition is important to start with. These Sufi legends mesmerised all with their powerful voices and magic of qawali. During their performance Chand Nizami also presented some soulful poetry and received a huge applause from the audience. The lines 'Mere Maula Ka Jispe Karam Ho Jaye Wo Satyam Shivam Sundaram Ho Jaye..' & 'Ha Se Hindu Ban Gaye, Ma se Muslim Bane aur Jab Ha or Ma Mile to 'HUM' ban gaye..' touched the people's hearts and they applauded the same.
The evening saw the soulful performance of Sufi music composed in Urdu, Farsi & Arabi language these included; 'Saanson Ki Khushboo..', 'Khwaja Mere Khwaja..', 'Faya Kun..'amongst few others. They ended the program with popular song 'Dama Dam Mast Kalandar..', in which the attraction was presentation of 'Dhamaal' by one of the accompanied musicians Nazim Nizami, he presented a vast variation on tabla and left the audience craving for more.
During the program Jai Prakash Agarwal (Sr. Leader), Vipin Sharma (MLA), Md. Adib (MP, Rajya Sabha, UP), Bhuvaneshwar Kaliya, Kamal Kishore along with Divine Social Welfare Society's Yash Sharma, Uttam Singh and Puneet were present. Manish Dubey was the compere for the evening.
Jai Prakash Agarwal praised the efforts of NGO Divine and said, though we see many musical programs and others to support the cause but here the theme is strong, AIDS is one of the biggest health issues today and to create awareness about it is very important. I wish them and artists all the best.
Speaking about the program, Yash Sharma said Today Nizami Bandhu are one of the top-most artists having performed at both national and international level. Since music is a very important part of life, we chose to organise an evening of Sufi Music with them to create awareness about AIDS.
Nizami Bandhu were extremely pleased with the program, the leader of the group Chand Nizami said, The word Qawwali comes from the Arabic word Qual, meaning “poems that are full of praises to God.” “We get a very satisfying feeling in our hearts and souls when we invoke God and Sufi saints by singing. There’s a big difference between performing on the stage and performing inside a sacred shrine,” Nizami said. “When your guru or saint is in front of you, and you’re singing face-to-face with God, it’s an entirely different atmosphere.”
"DIVINE" is a Non-Government Organisation, formally came into existence in the year 2003 and is registered under Societies registration Act (XXI) of 1860, reference registration No. S/47247/2003. The society is exempt from tax under section 80/G of the income tax act, 1961.
