PHOENIX FOUNDATION: Tihais and Trumpets - Big Band Goes India

Report by Santanu Ganguly: The Phoenix Foundation will play a set of Indo-Jazz Fusion, for which they will be joined by special guests, vocalist RA Ramamani and percussionist Ramesh Shotham, both internationally renowned musicians. The Phoenix Foundation will perform original compositions by Ramamani, Ramesh Shotham and Irish bassist and composer Ronan Guilfoyle, arranged for this tour by Ronan Guilfoyle himself.

PHOENIX FOUNDATION: Tihais and Trumpets - Big Band Goes India

Well-known trumpeter and jazz educator Frank Reichert will conduct the band.

Phoenix Foundation-Jugend Jazzorchester Rheinland-Pfalz was founded as, Landesjugendbigband-Rheinland-Pfalz in 1979. The name, Phoenix Foundation' exists since 1998 and represents the new members of the band, whose average age is 20. The orchestra is supported and sponsored by the state of Rheinland-Pfalz.

The 17 young jazz musicians touring India in March 2013 present a wide repertoire of music drawn from the genres of Jazz, Rock and Pop. They will play arrangements from big band giants like Count Basie, Gordon Goodwin and Peter Herbolzheimer; chart-hits, movie themes and original compositions by band members, arranged and presented by Phoenix Foundation.
