International Women's Day: Vibrant Musical Program in Bangalore
International Women's Day
EFT Report, Bangalore: Bangalore International Centre is observing International Women's Day with Vibrant Musical Program at it auditorium. The list of 'great composers' of India includes very few women, although there have been several women, right through history, who were as good as male composers.

This program, based on historical research, begins with the contribution of women to the Sanskrit hymns of the Rig Veda, and goes on to trace our feminist-cultural evolution through two thousand years, covering songs in Hindi, Marathi, Gujarathi, Telugu, Kannada, Tamil and Kashmiri, ending with a 21st century composition in a genre called tillana, which is based on complicated calculations (and therefore considered till recently, to be "inappropriate" for women performers). Interspersed with short commentaries on the lives of the composers, the program will include songs by Vagambrini, Meerabai, Lal Ded, Andal, Bahina Bai, Tallapakam Timmakka and others.

Phone: 9886599675

Date & Time: March 8, 2013; 6 pm onwards

Venue: Bangalore International Centre, TERI Complex, 4th Main 2nd Cross, Domlur, Bangalore
