| Conscious Parenting: Insights for Upbringing |
Sharing with us his profound knowledge over the years while he headed Mirambika (1994-99) and Sri Aurobindo Foundation for Integral Education, Partho will help parents and teachers develop a loving bond with children, leading them to a happy & successful life.
Program:
It is difficult to be ‘good’ parents in such an age of rapid transition. None of us can be sure of what we are living for—the old values are in flux, everyone seems to be questioning, exploring. Societies across the globe are in crises—west or east, it makes no difference anymore. But then, crises also bring opportunities. And as parents, are we prepared to relearn what it means to be children in an age such as this? As parents, can we ourselves return to learning?
Conscious parenting is a choice. It is choosing to look at your child as an individual with his or her own growth needs and potential; choosing to step aside and allowing children to blossom into their fullness, and to nurture them lovingly. Faced with such enormous responsibility, in an age of rapidly changing priorities, it is but natural to feel a measure of self doubt, fear or sometimes sheer panic. How do I bring up my child? What should I do? More importantly, perhaps, what should I not do? Does discipline work? Do we really understand discipline? Do we know how to communicate with our children? Or are we ordering and prescribing all the time? Will our children really listen?
These are some of the issues we take up in this workshop. The workshop is meant for young working parents who wish to engage in serious dialogue on parenting and children. Parenting, once you get the hang of it, can be fun - for parents and children!
