EFT Report, Mumbai: Rajasthan Josh, led and directed by Chugge Khan, is a collective of Manganiyar and Langa musicians from Jaisalmer and surrounding villages in the Thar Desert. Their music, with rhythmic, hypnotic and ethereal desert sounds, embraces traditional and contemporary styles and fusions, and is grounded in the traditions of the Manganiyars: artists and musicians who for centuries have traversed Rajasthan performing for the Moghul rulers and Rajput princes as well as at weddings, births, feasts and funerals.

The group plays Rajasthani folk - traditional Manganiyar songs, Bhajan - devotional songs and Sufi Qawwali.Rajasthan Josh are gifted and accomplished musicians who have played since early childhood and performed all over the world, in collaboration with a wide range of international artists and bands; Susheela Raman, Prem Joshua, Dub Colossus, Transglobal Underground and many more in both traditional and contemporary styles.

A skilled maestro of Rajasthani folk singing and instrumental music, Chugge Khan owes his rich ancestry and history to the Manganiyar peoples who consider themselves descendants of the Rajputs and are renowned as highly skilled folk musicians. Their songs are passed on from generation to generation forming an oral history of the desert. Chugge Khan is a dynamic and creative musician, and very popular with audiences. He plays many different instruments, and is a vocalist, writer, composer and arranger with a repertoire of more than 1000 songs. Students come from around the world to learn and practice with him at his home in Jaisalmer.
