Report by Santanu Ganguly, New Delhi: Zee News Ltd today honored extraordinary Heroes from the Indian Security Forces with ‘Ananya Samman 2012’ at a glittering ceremony at Hotel Taj Palace, New Delhi. With these awards Zee News, as a part of responsible fourth estate, salutes the nation’s bravehearts in its own way.

Keeping in line with Zee News’ philosophy of Soch Badlo Desh Badlo, a unique initiative 'Ananya Samman' was started in 2008 for showing respect to the bravest of the brave from across the country who did not think twice when it came to committing their lives in the interest of the nation. The nation’s biggest news network always respects these bravehearts and salutes them with these gallantry awards.

This year Zee News acknowledged Military/Para-Military Security Personnel for their Exemplary Acts of Courage in the service of the Nation with Ananya Samman 2012. These include Lifetime Contribution Award to Shri Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri from the Indian Army. Five Others from Indian Army were also felicitated, including 3 martyrs – Lance Naik Hemraj Singh, Hawaldar Jaipal Singh Adhikari and Naik Krishna Kumar. The others from the Army are Major Anup Joseph Manjali and Subedar Pradeep Beck. Two bravehearts from the Indian Navy, both Martyrs, who were honoured are Lt Commander, F D Mogal and Leading Seaman Clearance Driver, Umakant Panigrahi. Apart from the Army and Navy, 2 Para Military personnel form ITBP, were also honored – Constables Shiv Prasad and Bhoop Singh, both martyrs.

The guests included leading politicians from across the spectrum including Congress, BJP, BSP, CPI(M), RJD, etc like Sushil Kumar Shinde, LK Advani, Laloo Prasad Yadav, Kapil Sibal, Sharad Yadav, Narayan Sami, Rajeev Shukla, Salman Khursheed and Harish Rawat to name a few. This was one of those rare occasions when politicians from various parties shared the dais for a common cause and felicitate those who keep the country safe.

Ananya Samman has travelled across the length and breadth of the country. Year after year, events are held to felicitate them both at the national level in Delhi, as well through regional editions in – West Bengal, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
