| Sylvie Bourban, Mattias |
EFT Report, Mumbai: Born in Switzerland, Sylvie Bourban grew up singing in different choirs. At the age of sixteen, she was already a soloist in the village choir and performed regularly in a piano bar. Meanwhile, she attended the conservatory where she studied classical piano and music theory. At the age of eighteen, she moved to Lausanne, where she studied vocal technique, at the Jazz school, EJMA, until she wins a scholarship from the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. While in Boston, Sylvie immersed herself in Jazz, Instrumental, Latin and Brazilian music and studied composition. Between the years 2009 and 2010, she produced 3 CDs. Sylvies style is very unique. She has been inspired by her teachers, John Medeski, Cyro Baptista, Billy Martin, Chris Wood, Jamey Haddad, Hal Crook, Bob Stoloff, Dominique Eade, Fernando Brandao, Kenwood Dennard, Lisa Thorson and through workshops, with Bobby McFerrin, Rosa Passos and Bill Frisell among others. Her inspiration shines through many genres. She found a way to build her own sound and style, blending with a disconcerting ease all her different influences, with always the same unique ingredient, her sensitivity and love of interaction among musicians.
