EFT Report, Berhampur: According to the United Nations, one in every three women in the world experience violence. We REFUSE now to stand by, as more than a billion women on the planet experience violence. It is a call to all people—women, men, diverse gender identities and children across all ages, cultures and sites to refuse to live with ANY FORM OF VIOLENCE against them; it is an act of global solidarity. Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) of Berhampur demands an end to any form of violence.
YWCA Berhampur organized a workshop on One Billion Rising at Ganjam Kala Parishad, Berhampur on Feb. 14, 2013. It’s a campaign against atrocities on women, a call to the society; “Enough violence stop now.”
Presiding on the workshop N. Lena Chand, President-YWCA, Berhampur explained the true meaning of One Billion Rising, and she spoke on refuse to leave in any form of violence against women.”From mother’s womb to old age, no girl/women is secured in her life time. Every women and girl should get justice and her fundamental rights.” She declares awareness programs in coming every month, at the grass root level in rural Odisha, where women are brutally violated in form of domestic violence, women trafficking, dowry death, rape, early marriage etc as they are uneducated and ignorant of their right and justice, she added.
Inaugurating the occasion social Activist, Rutupurna Mohanty said, unemployment, poverty have forced the women of Ganjam district to migrate out of states and violated in form of human trafficking. Each and every woman should be aware of their rights. And government should empower women and take positive aspects to provide protection .there is a pressing need to educate and respect women she told. Berhampur superintendent of Police Mr. Pratik kumar mohanty told, women-child desk is working for the protection of women against any form of harassment and torture. Among others women activist and eminent educationist Ms JR Patro, Legal Adviser Mr. PK Panda and different college union presidents with youth delegates presented their speech on the topic. Young girls of YWCA show a martial arts act for self protection for girls. On this regard, some documentary short films based on violence against women in India was shown to the mass. Sucheta Mohanty, secy-YWCA presented the vote of thanks.
