Sanjay Garg opens Spring-Summer edition of AIFW 2016

EFT Report, New Delhi: Designer Sanjay Garg of the Raw Mango brand did what he is best at - bridge the gap between textile and fashion when he opened the Spring-Summer edition of Amazon India Fashion Week (AIFW) 2016 here on Wednesday.

His re-interpretation of Mashru, a mix of silk and cotton, made the 'old’ textile contemporary.

The five-day fashion event started at the NSIC Ground, Okhla with models donning fuss free saris, lehengas, wide sleeved blouses, long kurtas and salwars in bright colours like pink, green and red from Garg's Mashru collection.

The collection, which mostly had hand embroidery, emphasised on straight and angled cuts. There were no curved lines making the silhouettes clean and simple.

"The collection was made in Banaras. The garments presented technical advancements in Mashru that make the 'old’ textile contemporary, while retaining the luxuriousness that has always been an important part of it.

"It's very geometrical. The sleeves are also wide. The pieces can be worn as separate garments. You can walk around and work wearing my creations,” said Garg, who doesn't do projects on the basis of trends.

The look of the models was also very neat. With no heavy jewellery or loud make-up or elaborate hairdos, the models looked very traditional and simple.

"Braiding and oiling hair are very common in India. There is a certain pride in sporting that look and well tied hair doesn't create any obstacle while working," he said.

The designer, who made his AIFW debut, also brought fresh music on the stage. With no lyrics or instruments, a group of people just used their voice, hands and feet to produce melodious sound to entertain the packed audience.

"I wanted music without boundary. I didn't want any genre restriction like folk, pop or rock. So, there was a bit from Bengali weddings and some inspiration from Africa and more. This way the music belongs to everyone," said the designer.

His garments were definitely the stars of the show, but one couldn't skip Bollywood beauties Konkona Sen Sharma, Mini Mathur, Deepti Naval and Soha Ali Khan who applauded the collection from the front row.

Malaika, Nimrat Kaur Walk for Rina Dhaka at ICW

EFT Report, New Delhi: Bollywood actresses Malaika Arora Khan and Nimrat Kaur mesmerized fashion patrons as they walked as showstoppers for designer Rina Dhaka on the second day of the Shree Raj Mahal Jewellers India Couture Week (ICW) on July 16, 2014.

The designer had her reasons to finalist these two personalities who have onscreen images very different from each other.

While Nimrat is known for playing intense roles in films like "The Lunchbox" and "Peddlers", Malaika's dance moves in films like "Dabangg" and "Housefull 2" have their own fan following.

"Because I was showing a traditional line, Nimrat embodies a modern women who has got talent and acquired craft. Malaika is my sweetheart from earlier times. To me, she is what I was and what I will always be, a women who not only has a face but also a body," Dhaka told IANS before the show.

Inspired by the very verbose iconography of the gota work of Rajasthan, which she has shown in the past too, the designer took it forward this time by enriching it with a soft sensual appeal.

She recreated new styles in the Gota Patti, and placed it against tinsel sheers and lace.

There was extensive use of intricate embroidery elements from between the region of Rajasthan and some from the heartland of Uttar Pradesh, rearranged in a layered, lace-like manner.

Techniques of zardozi, kamdani, ari, lace and metallic gota were blended with tonal beading and soft embroidery to create a look of romance -- all in all, a refreshing collection for all style connoisseurs.

Fashion is not only to make an individual more elegant, but also to reassure them, give them confidence. In fact, true style is a way to say who one is without having to speak, because as actress Audrey Hepburn once said, elegance is the only beauty that never fades.
As the late fashion designer Alexander McQueen said: "It’s a new era in fashion - there are no rules. It’s all about the individual and personal style, wearing high-end, low-end, classic labels, and up-and-coming designers all together."
But designers of today are also conscious that soon as a fashion is universal, it is out of date. They are therefore constantly designing and burning the midnight oil to come up with new ideas.
Realizing the important role that established fashion designers can play in this, the Indian Federation for Fashion Development (IFFD) was set up to expose the younger and newer designers to the best in the world of fashion.
And with this in mind, the Indian Federation for Fashion Development(IFFD) has slated the second edition of Asia’s youngest fashion trade event, the Premia India Runway Week Summer Edition (PIRW SE 2014) from April 16 to 18, 2014, at the Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi.
The Premia India Runway Week will provide a platform created for the designers of tomorrow to showcase their talent in an industry event that will target domestic and international buyers and media.
The participants in the fashion shows are themselves a virtual who’s who of those who design all the latest styles that become fashion statements. They include Sonia Jetley, Shruti Sancheti, Asif Merchant, Rajdeep Ranawat, Swati Modo, Niket & Jannee, Stylion by Manish Gupta, Rosy Ahluwalia, Sandip & Anju Chanana, Ramesh Dembla, Pluss by Sandeep Aggarwal, AUM by Nishu Jain, Aashna Vikrant, Shivani Singh, Akaash K Aggarwal, Charas by Ankur & Sonia, Kavita Gogna, Ritu Chhabra, and Crescent by Faraz Manan.
While Premia is the Title Sponsor, Shree Rajmahal is the Associate Sponsor, and Audi is the Automobile Partner.
The show and exhibition space will provide these designers a dynamic platform to interact and develop lucrative business-driven relationships with the domestic and international industry as well as celebrities who are known for their fashion statements, and opinion leaders.
The Indian Federation for Fashion Development will arrange runway shows and premiere fashion content that enables the connoisseurs of the latest in fashion to discover new and innovative ideas.
Speaking on the occasion of announcement of the dates, IFFD Director Avinash Pathania said, “PIRW is a young platform for young designers to showcase their exquisite collections to bulk and retail buyers, media, and fashion connoisseurs.”
Kiran Kheva (Director, IFFD) added “After a very successful first edition, we are looking forward to an even more successful second edition of summer collection. The second edition Of PIRW shall witness a different scale of creative canvas and a new dimension to the business and establishing PIRW as a distinctive brand in Indian fashion industry."
Tarun Shienh, Managing Director of the Premia Group said, “You live only once. So friends lets live this life in grand style at PREMIA INDIA RUNWAY WEEK where fashion meets talent. Let’s make it large.”
Pradeep Goel, MD Shree Raj Mahal Jewellers, the Associate sponsors of the event quips, "We intend to promote the Indian Fashion Industry and upcoming designers by providing a large platform like 'Premia India Runway Week' that can create a milestone for Industry as well as Shree Raj Mahal Group.
