IHC to Host 'Satyam Shivam Sundaram' Dance Drama on Feb. 6

Report by Santanu Ganguly: Dr Sonal Mansingh, Padma Vibhushan, an embodiment and the living symbol of India’s great cultural heritage, an erudite cultural researcher and a consummately able interpreter brings another soul touching Dance Drama to enthrall Delhiites “Satyam Shivam Sundaram”.
The defining concept of Indian civilization has been constant search and endeavor to establish peace and harmony in society through cultural traditions of dance and music. The three (3) iconic values of Truth, Goodness and Beatitude are depicted through solo, duet and group dances in Indian classical traditions. 12 - 14 artists will magnify the audience with their spell binding Dance Drama choreography by Dr. Sonal Mansingh & Presented by Centre for Indian Classical Dances. 
Diverse cultural traditions have re-enforced this idea mainly through the performing arts viz dance and music. This evening’s presentation re-emphasizes the Ideals enshrined in Indian cultural traditions.
The dance drama “Satyam Shivam Sundaram” will be a spectacular performances including episodes - Om Sahnti, Navrasa & Krshna Kaaliya.

OM SHANTI
Mangalacharan - This is an Invocation to the Divine to make the programme successful. When we offer flowers ritually, each petal acquires significance. An offering made in the dance styles of Bharatnatyam and Odissi as divergent movements combine and contrast to create a unified picture of a flower opening petal by petal.
Navarasa
Rasa is about human state of mind. It’s about what the mind feels and the expression of the feeling thereafter. In the Bharata’s Natyashastra, Rasa is an emotion experienced by the audience created by the facial expression and patterns of the dancer. In Indian classical dance it is referred to as Rasa-abhinaya.

This presentation has been specially designed based on the natural phenomena of how humans live together in a composite world with birds, animals, vegetation and how each has  a role to play in the cycle of life.
Krshna Kaaliya
Kaaliya, the deadly and gigantic black King of Cobras, poisoned the river Yamuna killing all forms of living creatures and threatening life itself.  The episode has Krishna, The eighth incarnation of the supreme God Vishnu in Hinduism, taking on the cobra King in a feisty battle subduing him and restoring harmony.
