Registrations for the inaugural HCG Pinkathon, which will take place in the National Capital on the 15th of September 2013, are now open. The focus of the international running event is to encourage women's health and fitness and create much-needed awareness against breast cancer.
The first ever Pinkathon - representing a milestone in the efforts to fight the hugely under-publicized ailment in India - was held in Mumbai on the 16th of December 2012 and Bangalore on the 7th of April 2013. In an overwhelming expression of support, more than 6000 women of all ages, across all walks of life participated in the events. Organised primarily as a 10km run, Pinkathon is now spread across twelve Indian cities and expanding to New Delhi, Hyderabad, Chandigarh and Pune this year. Women may also register for a 5km or 3km run.
Maximus Events has joined hands with the Women’s Cancer Initiative (WCI) led by Deveika Bhojwani and the Tata Memorial Hospital for the unique initiative. As Event Ambassador, Former Miss India and fitness enthusiast Gul Panag, together with Seema Jindal Jajodia, Owner, Nourish Organic, representing women from the corporate world, officially launched registrations for participants from across the country.
Well known Red FM 93.5 RJ Swati will be the brand mascot of the run in New Delhi. The RJ will train with HCG Pinkathon running coaches for a month to prepare for the 10km run.
HCG Pinkathon 2013 has garnered support from some of the leading brands in the country. Prominent among these are HealthCare Global Enterprises Ltd, a leading specialist in Cancer Care and the event’s title sponsor, Red FM 93.5, India’s largest and most awarded radio station as radio partner, Lemon Tree Hotels as Hospitality Partner, and On Ground Partner Select City Walk.
Reema Sanghavi, Managing Director Maximus Events said, “After organising immensely successful running events in Mumbai and Bangalore, we are proud to launch HCG Pinkathon in New Delhi, our National Capital. While we aim to spread awareness on breast cancer, we also educate women about its causes and prevention through the run. Not many people know that it is among the curable cancers if detected early. I urge women to become more alert and aware about the disease.”
It is estimated that 1 in 22 Indian women have the lifetime probability of developing breast cancer. In India, the number of new breast cancer cases is about 115,000 per year and this is expected to rise to 250,000 new cases per year by 2015.”
Dinesh Madhavan, Director, Healthcare Services, HCG, said, “Since its inception HCG, The Specialist in Cancer Care has been spearheading the fight against cancer. The HCG Pinkathon, an International Women's run is part of our ongoing effort to create awareness and educate woman on cancer. One in 20 women are effected by Breast Cancer in India, we hope an event like this would further reiterate the fact that greater awareness is required and the first step in the fight against cancer is to stay fit,”
Announcing the launch Milind Soman said, “I believe we as a populace should do whatever it takes to raise awareness about breast cancer and keep it at bay. Running addresses most of the top 10 ways to help prevent breast cancer, not only promoting well-being but also raising immunity levels and improving health to help fight diseases like cancer. I am confident that the people of New Delhi will support the cause with full vigour, helping us spreading awareness about breast cancer while raising adequate funds to fight the ailment in our country.”
Former Miss India and Fitness Enthusiast Gul Panag said, “In today’s day and age, raising awareness about health ailments is crucial. A platform like HCG Pinkathon will go a long way in educating people about the causes and prevention of a much-neglected condition like breast cancer, and I am delighted to help further the cause. I wish Milind, Reema and Deveika all the success in this noble endeavour.”
Deveika Bhojwani, Vice President Women’s Cancer Initiative-Tata Memorial Hospital said, “Having worked towards the cause of breast cancer awareness for several years, I firmly believe that Indian women need to realize how important it is to understand the ailment and its risks. In addition, it is crucial to get yourself checked, spread the word on a personal basis, and adopt fitness as a way of life. The importance of Milind and Reema’s venture cannot be underestimated. I take this opportunity to urge the women of Delhi to come forward and support this cause.”
Aradhana Lal, Vice President, Corporate Communications & Sustainability Initiatives stated, “We are delighted to partner with HCG Pinkathon in their effort to raise awareness on Breast Cancer through a women’s marathon. Lemon Tree Hotels as a brand lays special emphasis on the safety and comfort of its women guests, while pampering them in many small ways. We are the first hotel brand in the mid-market space to launch a separate women’s wing at all our properties. This new initiative revolves around creating dedicated spaces for women guests and developing a product-service offering that provides greater security, offers special amenities that meet ladies expectations and most of all pampers them every time they choose Lemon Tree Hotels.”
“After the successful collaboration of RED FM & Maximus Events in Mumbai, with Malishka as the Mascot for the run, we are excited to be back on board for the HCG Pinkathon in Delhi. It is always interesting to associate with events which have a social cause and I am sure Swati , as the Brand Mascot for the run in Delhi, would bring the right mix of gravitas and entertainment to the entire event”, said, Nisha Narayanan, COO-RED FM.
Awareness for the twin causes of women's wellness and dealing with breast cancer are being further enhanced through integrated activities on social media and peripheral promotional ground events.
All proceeds from the sponsorship and donations received will be used only for the expenses incurred in organizing and marketing the event, and by the WCI in its fight against breast cancer.
