Flamenco by Annalouise, Kathak by Astha on May 11

Report by Santanu Ganguly: Flamenco is the art form of the Spanish gypsies, originally from India. It is the fusion of Indian, Arabic and Sephardic influences. Annalouise explores her Sephardi heritage through flamenco and her connection to India, the birthplace of her father, a Baghdadi Jew.

This performance is a completely impromptu collaboration with local musicians on Tabla and Cajon, inspired by the mystical space-Zorba the Buddha. It will offer you Flamenco authenticity, its vibrancy, rhythm and deep spirit.

Astha will be presenting a Kathak choreography on Sufi Mysticism based on poetries of Bulleh Shah, Amir Khusro, Kwaja Ghulam Farid. Astha Dixit will use the craft of Kathak and invite you in an intimacy with the divine. Playing with emotions of love, beauty, intoxication, and exploring the sufi practice of spins in Kathak, she will skillfully present these rare poetries.
