To preserve and promote the original richness of the musical traditions, Mehrangarh Museum Trust, the Fundación Cante de las Minas, and the Embassy of Spain in India signed a Memorandum of Understanding tonight at Umaid Bhawan Palace Jodhpur for the creation of a Centre for Flamenco and Rajasthani Music studies. This international centre will be set up at the Mehrangarh Fort, Jodhpur.

Music and dance has always been a basic part of the intangible cultural heritage. It’s noteworthy that historic relation exists between the folklore of Rajasthan and the Spanish Flamenco; brought to Spain by the gypsy tribes, who were originally from Rajasthan. Considering this, it is essential to promote a better understanding of these relations and preserve the original richness of this musical tradition by setting up an international centre in Jodhpur.
