Taking cognizance of the glaring gap that exists between the demand and supply of skilled labour, DLF Foundation has started a flagship ‘Skill a million’ program as a part of which they aim to set up 250 centers across India and skilling a million people in the next 5 years. Job placement, along with appropriate remuneration is the key to this program. DLF Foundation has successfully placed students in various organizations spread across different sectors. For the skill development program, the Foundation has engaged with NGOs, and skill development agencies so as bring together the finest professionals to achieve greater results.
In the recently announced Union Budget 2013-14 and the Economic survey, the Government has allocated INR 1,000 crore for the skill development for the youth. As a part of the agenda, the National Skill Development Corporation has decided to train 5 crore people in the current plan. The government has also set a target to skill approximately 500 million people in the next 10 years. Assisting the government and NSDC in their noble initiative, DLF Foundation in collaboration with several partners has set up DLF LIFE Skill Centers across the country.
Expressing his views on DLF Foundation’s initiative, Mr. Sanjeev Kumar Bansal, Director, Advance College of Management & Technology said, “In rapidly growing economies like India with a vast and ever-increasing population, the problem is two-fold. On one hand, there is a severe paucity of highly-trained, quality labor, while on the other, large sections of the population possess little or no job skills. To resolve this problem, DLF Foundation has undertaken an excellent initiative on this front to impart skills which are relevant and are much needed in today’s competitive world. The ‘Skill a Million’ is an excellent program which I am sure will be a success story!”
Ms. Gayatri Paul, Associate Director- Programs, Head of the Skill Development Department of DLF Foundation stated, “The DLF LIFE Labournet Skill Center will aim to enable the youth of Bulandshar with industry required skill sets so that they can compete at a global level. The beneficiaries which we seek to impact are the unemployed youth who are taught not only the technical skills but also the lifeskills necessary for employment. This is an employment assured training program where all trainees are provided with placement linkages to give them an opportunity to improve their lives and build their careers. We seek to train one million poor youth throughout the country by establishing 250 such skill centers.”
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Balaji, VP, LabourNet said, “We are glad to be associated with a partner like DLF Foundation and setting up centers with them across India who are dedicated to the cause of skill development and we hope that this center would immensely benefit the local youth. Together we will not only empower our youth but also work towards the economic development of our country.”
DLF Foundation was set up with the express mission of empowering communities & creating opportunities for the underprivileged in areas of Education, Skill Development, cluster-village development and healthcare. These four sectors were identified as DLF believes that they are integral to the upliftment & better quality of life for the economically challenged sections of society.
