Mr. Hari Singh, General Manager-Motorsport, JK Tyre & Industries, said, “This rally is in in its sixth year and this is our fourth year of association with SOBA and we’re sure this edition will be as successful as those in the past. We have always looked at promoting motorsport at all levels across the country and have created several properties over the years. The SOBA Car Rally is one of our initiatives to promote and encourage the sport while also making it a wholesome enjoyable experience for the entire family.”

TSD (Time Speed Distance) is a unique form of rallying where crossing the chequered flag fastest is not the objective. Mostly conducted on public roads (staying within traffic rules) with sporadic off-road and track sections, the objective of these rallies is to maintain specified times and average speeds (which are at par or lower than the legal limits) on various segments of a predefined route.

Over 30 cars and 90 contestants are participating in the Rally. Each team comprises of a driver and navigator, and unlike racing or other forms of rallying, the role of the navigator is equally, if not more important, in the success of the team. It is the navigator who has to bear in mind the route instructions, calculate the average speed and ensure the team is on track and not behind or ahead of the schedule as both scenarios attract penalty points. Since normal cars are used for this form of rallying, with basic safety equipment, anyone can participate and experience the thrill of motor rallying, thus bringing motorsport closer to the common man.

The rally will conclude in Ranthambore on Saturday, May 4, 2013 followed by a prize distribution ceremony, which will be presided by Mr. Y.K. Sahu, Chief Field Officer, Ranthambore National Game Park.

The SOBA Car Rally 2013 is co-sponsored by GAIL, VLCC, Lokmat, Servo and Mountain Dew.

Scindia Old Boys Association (SOBA) is the alumni association of The Scindia School, Gwalior. SOBA has 22 national chapters and 8 international chapters spread across the entire globe. The association acts as a vital link between the school and its current and past students. SOBA periodically organizes blood donation camps, medical camps for the needy, fund raising dinners, and has recently also got involved in promoting sports.
