Santanu Ganguly’s Report, Noida: Complicated concepts of Science were brought to life through a range of activities and intricate models all lined up for display at The Shriram Millennium School’s (TSMS) first Science Fair- Mad about Science – a unique parent-driven initiative.

The first Science Fair organized by the school was inaugurated by the members of the school Managing Committee. In her address to the children, Ms. Radhika Bharat Ram, member, Management Committee said, “As children grow up, for some reason, they develop a fear of Science. We believe in each child there exists a scientist, a mind seeking answers. And it is with this thought that this initiative called Mad about Science (MAS) was initiated.”

Ms. Uttara Singh, Principal, The Shriram Millennium School, Noida said, “Taking Science out of the confines of the textbook and making it fun and relatable while inculcating the spirit of scientific enquiry and ignite young minds - is the primary objective of MAS. Also with the National Science Day just around the corner on 28th February, this was the best possible tribute from School and students to Science.”

The fair was a culmination of over four months of dabbling in all things Science. The MAS fever that had visibly gripped the parents, children and staff was much in evidence during the fair with the budding scientists along with their parents explaining and demonstrating myriad scientific concepts with enviable ease.

The visitors to the fair were taken for an exciting journey into the realm of Science with the TSMS children showing experiments or sharing information on diverse fields of Science from simple concepts of colour, food and nutrition, how plants manufacture food, how air exerts pressure to more complicated concepts of paper recycling, the journey of sound and light, the application of force, energy, electricity and nuclear chemistry. An explosion of colours greeted the visitors at every stall with simple pinwheels and shadow puppets jostling for attention alongside intricate models of an atomic structure and pulsars and complete dioramas.

The fair was an action packed, fun affair with some NGOs and organizations like TERI contributing equally to this unique event which held the visitors spell-bound by the sheer expanse of the subject we simply call ‘Science.’
