Mythical Land ‘Zerzura’ Comes Alive in South Delhi

By Santanu Ganguly, New Delhi: Inspired by the adventures held by the mythical land of Zerzura, the city’s newest lounge in Clarion Collection Hotel, ‘Zerzura’ came alive with interiors reminiscent of the Middle East, cuisine traversing North Africa to the Middle East and a host of guests across professions and industries.

The indoor and covered outdoor space saw many noted faces of the capital partying, and these included, Polo player, Samir Suhag; Designers Anju Modi, Abhi Singh, Rahul Singh, Samant Chauhan, Anand Bhushan, Jejum Gadi and Nitin Bal Chauhan; Along with television artist Nasir Abdullah; Artist Niladiri Paul with his wife Nirupama, Stylists Meenakshi Dutt and Aamer Zakir; Kohinoor Group honchos Ankur and Nishant Arora, Tsvetding Ignatova from the Bulgarian Embassy, Socialite Ramola Bachchan, Anuj Bahri – owner of Bahri sons, Sandeep Gupta – owner of Clarion Collection (Qutab Hotel), along with representatives from the Mongolian embassy, Habanos, JK Tyres and several other corporations and industries.

And the guests were ably taken care by hosts of the evening, Shagun Somani – owner of Zerzura; Sonia and Manu Mohindra- hospitality consultants and the designers of Zerzura; and Anubhav Swami – the creative designer behind Zerzura. An evening of friends and family, the ambience was adorned with Asian underground music filling the air and Mezze Platters, Lamb Kibbeh, four varieties of Tagine and an array of dessert including Baklava on the menu.

This is owner Shagun Somani’s second hospitality venture after the extremely successful Hinglish: The Colonial Café running in West Delhi.

“My aim is always to give to the market something new and cutting edge. With Zerzura, while I am traversing the typical region of North Africa and Middle East, the cuisine and ambience is contemporary and laden with authenticity.”

Based on the adventures of finding the impossible land of ‘Zerzura’ in the Sahara region, Zerzura opens its doors to welcome the spirit of adventure and the quest for something new with its Mid-Eastern, Moroccan outing that comes intact with distressed-finished furniture, traditional middle-eastern décor, alongwith wine and food fit for a King.

Situated in South Delhi’s Qutab Hotel, the lounge is the second project by restaurateur Shagun Somani, who raked in tremendous success with Hinglish, presently running in West Delhi’s Pacific Mall. The menu at Zerzura is honest, uncluttered and authentic. From the Iranian Kebab House to the Mezze Bar in Lebanon and even Tajines from Morocco, painstaking research and groundwork has gone into creating Zerzura at Qutub.
