Award-Winning Art on Display in Delhi; Entry Free

By Santanu Ganguly, New Delhi: An experience in seeing, inspired by the world of traveling cinemas. An experience that is unique to the mobility and embodiment of the touring cinemas. They journey to faraway villages, bringing the big screen experience to their patrons every year. They traverse landscapes- transforming them, knitting image itineraries, offering gateways to what lies beyond, conjuring imagination out of the mundane.

Artist Amit Madheshiya and Shirley Abraham locate, narrate and reimagine the story of the traveling tent cinemas through their research and artistic interventions. This work is supported by India Foundation for the Arts Bangalore; Cluster of Excellence Heidelberg; and the Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan. The work has been part of solo and group exhibitions worldwide. For his work, Amit won the World Press Photo in 2011. He also won the World Photography award in 2009 and 2011 and the Grand Prize at the Humanity Photo Awards.
