India’s steel giant, Tata Steel plans to invest up to 800 million pounds in its Welsh steel industry over the next five years, the First Minister of Wales, Carwyn Jones, said after returning from a visit to India.
This substantial investment will be used to improve production, product mix, quality and product range at their plants in Wales.
Tata Steel has a number of facilities in Wales, including Port Talbot and Shotton, and employs about 7,500 people in the country.
The steelmaker has recently highlighted tough market conditions, and last month invited around 5,000 steelworkers in Wales to apply to take extra time off at half-pay in March.
