The annual Marathon de Paris or Paris International Marathon 2012 is scheduled to take place on April 15, 2012. More than 60,000 runners are expected to participate in the marathon. They need to cover a distance of 26.2 miles during the event.
The marathon will start at 8.45 am. There is a 5 hour 40 minutes cut-off for the Paris Marathon. After this time the roads will be reopened and all remaining competitors will then be subject to normal road rules.
Every runner will be given a Chip when collecting his bib and kit bag at Running Expo. Check points will be placed at the start, every 5 km and at the finish, to control each competitor's time.
The starting line for the Paris Marathon is on the Avenue des Champs-Elysees. Runners head downhill and around the Place de la Concorde then turn right into Rue de Rivoli. The route passes the famous Louvre, before going round the outside of the Place de la Bastille, and down Boulevard Soult towards the Bois de Vincennes. A wide loop of the Bois de Vincennes returns runners to the heart of the city and Rue de Charenton, the halfway point.
The inward stretch follows the course of the Seine, passing Ile de la Cite and going under the Pont Neuf, and through a series of tunnels. For those in need, there is a large drinks station and foot massage at Trocadero, facing the Eiffel Tower. The route then continues along the Seine, before branching east towards Bois de Boulogne, finally emerging for the final 200 metres and the finish line on the Avenue Foch.
Voted as one of the world’s top 10 marathons, the Marathon de Paris is undoubtedly one of the biggest and most popular marathons in Europe today.
