JK Tyre Car Rally 2013 Held in Kolkata

Report by Santanu Ganguly: Eastern India’s top drivers had battle for the top honors in April. Rally was flagged off from Park Street and finish near City Center–1, Salt Lake. JK Tyre has charmed motorsport lovers in Kolkata with the JK Tyre TSD Car Rally 2013. The ceremonial flag-off was scheduled on April 21, 2013 from Dishari, Salt Lake. Mr. Ravi Kumar, Chairman, Calcutta Motor sports Club, Mr. Saurav Chatterjee, Clark of the Course were present for the flag-off along with Mr. S R Chatterjee, Regional Manager, JK Tyre & Industries Limited.

Bringing together time, speed and distance in an exciting way, the rally begun from Park Street and Camac Street Crossing, covering a distance of 80 kms before concluding at the City Center–1, Salt Lake. The cars passed through areas such as Salt Lake Stadium, Salt Lake Sector – 5 and New Town, covering Kolkata’s finest roads and locales.

Around 40 cars that included the leading rally drivers of Eastern India had participated in the rally, which was the ultimate test of the navigational and driving skills of competitors. The internationally accepted TSD format is a unique form of rallying where crossing the chequered flag fastest is not the objective. Mostly conducted on public roads with sporadic off-road and track sections, the objective of these rallies is to maintain specified times and average speeds on various segments of a predefined route. Each team usually consists of a driver and navigator.

The Prize Distribution Ceremony was held at 15.30 hrs at Dishari, Salt Lake, and the occasion was graced by eminent personality from the world motorsport fraternity.

The JK Tyre Car Rally 2013 was organized by the Motor Sports Association of Eastern India (MSAEI) and Calcutta Motor Sports Club (CMSC). It was supported by Taza TV, Mounthill, OPDM, and MB Sarkar & Sons Jewellers.
